West Indies head coach Phil Simmons hailed senior pace bowler Kemar Roach for his performance in the recently concluded two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home. West Indies routed Bangladesh 2-0 after a comprehensive 10-wicket win in the second Test on Monday at St Lucia.

Kyle Mayers’ second Test century helped the hosts to a clinical 174-run lead in the first innings. It was intimidating for Bangladesh, who have struggled to score a total of 300 in their last 10 outings, to post a challenging target for their opponents.

West Indies pacers were on regular business after the play was delayed owing to the wet outfield on the fourth day. Roach (3/54) and Alzarri Joseph (3/57) attacked from both ends to decimate the Bangladesh batting order as the visitors were bowled out for 186 within nine overs after the play resumed.

Right-arm medium Jayden Seales also chipped in with three wickets as West Indies were left to chase a minuscule 13 runs in the fourth innings. Openers Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell took 2.5 overs to finish the proceedings.

“(Kemar Roach) is helping the fast bowlers to mature quicker. I think he has an exceptional influence on all the young fast bowlers. He has taken his role as the senior pro very seriously. It shows on the field. You can see him talking to them, who are trying to do the right things all the time. I think his influence has been massive to these young fast bowlers,” Simmons told reporters after the second Test, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
