West Indies take on Bangladesh in the third and T20I in Guyana on July 8, Friday. The first game ended in a no result with the winning the second T20I. Bangladesh needs to win the final game to level the series or else Windies will win the series 2-0. Both teams will play a three-match ODI series after the final T20I.

The first T20I ended in a no-result after play was not possible due to wet outfield. The match was reduced to 16 overs per side due to wet conditions but the match was finally called off due to multiple rain interruptions. Rovman Powell blasted 61 off just 28 balls to take his team to 193/5 in the second T20I and help his team win the game by 35 runs.

West Indies are currently placed seventh in the ICC T20I rankings while Bangladesh eighth. The series is important for both teams considering their T20 World Cup preparations.

Bangladesh T20I skipper Mahmudullah spoke about playing the series with an aggressive intent ahead of the first T20I. AS it turned out, they were no match for the hosts in the second T20I as they fell short by a huge margin in the second T20I reaching only 158/6 in response to West Indies’ 193. The final T20I will be a test of their ability as a T20I side to weather the storm and make a comeback in the series. It is an uphill task for them and The visitors need to up their game as well.

“In T20Is, you have very little time in the game, so you need to be very much aware of the conditions that will be provided. The game sense has to be applied. Our motto will be to be very positive and aggressive at the same time,” he said ahead of the first T20I.

Rovman Powell gave a glimpse of what the West Indies side is capable of in T20Is. Without Kieron Pollard and some of their key players, the side still managed to put up a brilliant performance with both bat and ball. Powell who is also the vice-captain of the side stepped up big time and showed his potential as a finisher as well. West Indies would like to play the third T20I with the same template.

“We know Rovman’s history. He has captained the West Indies before and is also the captain of his CPL franchise. Our role is to look at future leaders as well and we have identified a few, including him, who we will be putting through programmes to ensure we keep them involved in that aspect of cricket” chief selector Desmond Haynes said.
