WI vs NZ: West Indies Fined For Maintaining Slow Over Rate In The 3rd ODI
The West Indies have been fined 40% of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against New Zealand in the third and final ODI on Sunday, August 21 in Barbados.
New Zealand won the third ODI by five wickets, completing the three-match series against the West Indies.
The sanction was imposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees after the West Indies were ruled to be two overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into account.
According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which addresses minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20% of their match fees for each over their team fails to bowl in the allocated time.
West Indies Also Lose Two Valuable Points In The World Super League Table
Furthermore, under Article 16.12.2 of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League Playing Conditions, a team is penalised one point for each over that is not completed. As a result, the West Indies have dropped two points from their Super League point total.
Pooran pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed punishment, so no formal hearing was required. The charge was levelled by the on-field umpires, Joel Wilson and Leslie Reifer, as well as third umpire Gregory Brathwaite and fourth umpire Nigel Duguid.
New Zealand won its first bilateral series in the Caribbean in 37 years. Windies would be devastated. They got a good score on the board but were easily beaten by the Kiwis. The wet ball and conditions didn’t help, but neither did the hosts’ fielding, which was poor. Earlier, the hosts’ top three scorers scored the majority of the runs, propelling them past the 300-run mark. In response, New Zealand had almost everyone firing with the bat for them. This game earned New Zealand 10 points.
