West Indies take on New Zealand in the first of the three ODIs to be played in Barbados on August 17. The side is on a losing streak in recent times. They won the T20I series against Bangladesh and since then have lost the ODI series against them followed by the white-ball series against India and now the T20I series against the Kiwis as well.
West Indies ars led by Nicholas Pooran in this series. He has repeatedly spoken about the team trying to fit into the culture of playing ODI cricket. The regular skipper was rested from the last game and will be back as the skipper for the first ODI.
There are a few other changes to the ODI squad as well. Rovman Powell has been rested from the series while Shai Hope their premier batter has returned to the side. Shamarh Brooks, Brandon King, Shimron Hetmyer and Jason Holder retained their spots from the T20I series. Hope will open the batting in the first ODI. He has been the most prolific run-scorer for West Indies in ODIs. He was in top form recently against India and will be key against New Zealand as well.
