Zimbabwe National Cricket Team have achieved a sensational feat in the history of the T20 Cricket. The Sikander-led side have shattered the record of the highest team score in the shortest format of the game as they came up with a humongous effort with the bat on Wednesday (23rd October).
Zimbabwe National Cricket Team achieved the feat in the ongoing game against Gambia in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Sub Regional Qualifier B, 2024. The match between the two teams is taking place at the Ruaraka Sports Club Ground, Nairobi.
Zimbabwe posts a total of 344 runs in 20 overs
Zimbabwe National Cricket Team won the toss and opted to bat first. They came out all guns blazing and went after the Gambia bowlers right from the start. They ended up with a total of 344 runs in 20 overs, surpassing Nepal's total of 314 runs against Mongolia in 20 overs in 2023.
Opening batters in Brian Bennet (50) and Tadiwanashe Marumani (62) begin the proceedings in high. They went berserk and slammed the fifties for Team in quick succession of time. They added 98 runs in just 5.4 overs and put the opposition under pressure.
Sikander Raza slams a brutal century
Dion Myers, who walked out to bat at No.3, couldn't set the stage on fire as he was back in the hut after scoring 12 runs in 5 balls. The real blitz came from the bat of skipper Sikander Raza, who continued his golden touch with the bat and made sure that he cashed on the platform given by the openers.
The all-rounder slammed a brutal century and made sure that he took to his team the dominating position in the match. Raza remained unbeaten at 133 runs off 43 balls. He batted with a strike rate of 7 fours and 15 sixes and looked in complete control.
Ryan Burl (25) and Clive Madane (53*) also supported skipper Sikander Raza well. Based on the terrific effort with the bat, the Zimbabwe National Cricket Team posted a total of 344 runs. For the Gambia, Andre Jarju picked two wickets as all the bowlers were taken to the cleaners.
This was only the second time in the history of T20s Cricket that the 300-run mark was breached. They and Nepal are now the only teams to have achieved the feat. India came close to it but ended with a total of 297 runs in the recent T20I against Bangladesh.
