Former India Women’s team skipper Anjum Chopra has expressed surprise over Delhi Capitals’ decision to release medium pacer Tara Norris ahead of the Women’s Premier League 2024 auction. Tara Norris is the only overseas player among the total three to be released by the Delhi Capitals ahead of the auction. The last season’s runners-up have ₹2.25 crore remaining in their purse under which they have to acquire three players to complete a full-strength squad of 18 members.

Anjum Chopra was asked on Sports 18 while she was previewing the WPL auction, whether she was surprised when the Delhi Capitals released Tara Norris, to which she responded, “Surprised because she was an out-and-out performer for them. But because they have released Tara Norris, that means they definitely have their eyes set on another associate player, so that they can play five foreigners.”

Anjum Chopra Names Three Players That Delhi Capitals Can Target In The WPL Auction

The former Indian Women’s team captain thinks that the Capitals might invest in domestic talents at the auction. She elaborated, “If they have to invest in talent, they would rather go in with an Indian talent where they can build the team for the future, with more time from Meg Lanning. I see her investing more time in the Delhi Capitals, now that she is not playing international cricket.”

Anjum Chopra named Vrinda Dinesh, Uma Chetry, and Sushma Verma as three of the Indian players the Delhi Capitals might be interested in. However, she added that the Capitals can also get an established player as a steal at the auction. The Meg Lanning-led side reached the finals last season but were defeated by Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians.

Meg Lanning recently announced her retirement from international cricket and now she can focus fully on the different franchise leagues. She has led Australia to four Women’s T20 World Cup titles which shows how compelling she is as a leader and the Delhi-based franchise will hope that Lanning will get them their first-ever WPL title soon as they missed the last one by just a small margin.

Delhi Capitals might target players like Sushma Verma, Vrinda Dinesh, and Uma Chetry or they can go big by bidding for a well-established player. The team has already a good batting line-up with the likes of Meg Lanning, Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Varma, and Marizanne Kapp in the team.
