The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 concluded on Saturday (15th March), and it was Mumbai Indians who emerged as the winners. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side beat Delhi Capitals by 8 runs at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai to lift their second title.
Mumbai Indians were exceptional throughout the WPL 2025 as they displayed magnificent performances with the bat and ball. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led also came up with a top-notch effort in the final against Delhi Capitals, who succumbed to pressure.
WPL 2025: Mumbai Indians post a total of 149 runs, Harmanpreet Kaur shines with bat
Asked to bat, Mumbai Indians had a poor start with the bat in the final as Yastika Bhatia's (8) torrid run continued and also Hayley Matthews (3) was back in the hut. It was then when Nat Sciver-Brunt (30) and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (66) joined hands and bailed the team out of trouble. The Brunt-Kaur duo added 89 runs for the third wicket before the former was back in the hut.
Harmanpreet slammed a vital half-century and batted till the 18th over. She didn't get much support, but her knock took Mumbai Indians to a total of 149 for seven in the final of the WPL 2025. For Delhi, Marizanne Kapp and Jess Jonassen bagged two wickets each.
WPL 2025: Delhi Capitals failed to chase the target
Delhi Capitals looked under pressure right from the start of the chase as they lost wickets quickly. Skipper Meg Lanning (13), Shafali Verma (4), Jess Jonassen (13) and Annabel Sutherland (2) got out early as the team was left at 44 for four.
Jemimah Rodrigues (30) held the one end up and tried to keep her team in the hunt but she too couldn't carry as Mumbai Indians took command of the game with wickets at regular intervals.
However, with the team under pressure, Marizanne Kapp (40) and Niki Prasad (25*) gave some hope to Delhi fans, but Mumbai bowlers were top-notch as they restricted the opposition to 141 for nine to win the match by eight runs. Nat Sciver-Brunt was the pick of the bowlers as she bagged three wickets.
The attention was then on the awards of the WPL 2025. Winners received prize money of INR 6 crore while runners-up were given INR 3 crore. The rest of the award winners got INR 5 lakh each.
