WPL 2025: Nicole Bolton joins Mumbai Indians as fielding coach

The inaugural champions, Mumbai Indians (MI), made changes to their coaching staff ahead of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025. Mumbai Indians have appointed former Australian opener Nicole Bolton as the assistant coach just before the third edition of the WPL, which is set to begin on February 14.

Bolton retired from all formats in November 2022 and transitioned into coaching roles with South Australia and the Adelaide Strikers. The former Australian cricketer will join MI's staff as an assistant coach. Bolton brings extensive coaching experience to the Mumbai Indians team ahead of the WPL 2025 season.

Mumbai Indians Appoint Nicole Bolton as Fielding Coach Ahead of WPL 2025

On Friday, January 31, Mumbai Indians officially announced the appointment of Nicole Bolton as their new Fielding Coach for the WPL 2025. The announcement was made via the team’s website, where they welcomed Bolton to the coaching unit under Head Coach Charlotte Edwards.

Mumbai Indians expressed excitement about her joining the team and also thanked Lydia Greenway for her contributions to the fielding sessions over the past two seasons.

"Paltan, we have news. Nicole Bolton, the former Australian opener, is all set to join the us ahead of the 2025 Women’s Premier League in the role of Mumbai Indians’ Fielding Coach, as part of the coaching unit under Head Coach, Charlotte Edwards," the statement read.

"In a career spanning from 2014 to 2019, Nicole was a mainstay in the Aussie batting lineup, and has played 50 ODIs, three Tests, and two T20Is. She holds the record for being the first Australian woman to score a century on ODI debut, and the first woman of any nationality to score such a century against a full ICC member team."

"Her coaching credentials include stints as the Assistant Coach for South Australia and the Adelaide Strikers in the WBBL. Welcome to the Blue and Gold, Nicole!"

"We’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Lydia Greenway for the endless throws and strategies at the fielding sessions over the last two seasons. Go well, Lydia!"

Mumbai Indians Eager to Make a Strong Comeback in WPL 2025 Season

The Mumbai Indians, after a disappointing exit in the 2024 WPL Eliminator, are eager to make a strong comeback in the 2025 season. They added South African all-rounder Nadine de Klerk and U19 star G Kamalini during the auction to strengthen their squad.

Key players like Harmanpreet Kaur, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Amelia Kerr, Pooja Vastrakar, Yastika Bhatia, Hayley Matthews, and Shabnim Ismail are also part of the team. Notably, the Mumbai Indians had won the inaugural WPL title in 2023, defeating the Delhi Capitals in the final.

Mumbai Indians to Begin WPL 2025 Campaign Against Delhi Capitals on February 15

The third edition of the Women’s Premier League will begin on February 14, with the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Gujarat Giants (GG). The Mumbai Indians will start their campaign the following day against the Delhi Capitals in Vadodara.

Vadodara will host the first six matches before action moves to Bengaluru, where eight matches will be held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The tournament will shift to Lucknow for four matches, and the final phase, including the last two league games, the eliminator, and the final, will take place in Mumbai.
