Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has picked his favourites for the upcoming Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025. He backed Delhi Capitals to do something special in the upcoming season, pointing out their consistency in the last two seasons.

The third edition of the Women Premier League (WPL) is all set to take place from Friday (14th February) with Gujarat Giants taking on defending Champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the tournament opener. The match will be played at the Vadodara Cricket Stadium.

Delhi Capitals will be opening their campaign in the tournament against Mumbai Indians on 15th February. The Meg Lanning-led side have been one of the most consistent teams in the tournament, even though they are yet to win the Women's Premier League (WPL) title.

Delhi Capitals reached the final in the last two editions of the league and finished the league stage as table toppers. However, this time around, they would be keen to go one step ahead and win the title, ending their two-year-long wait.

Aakash Chopra talked about his favourites for the WPL 2025, pointing out how Delhi Capitals have been performing for the last two years. He feels that the Meg Lanning-led side are close to winning the title. Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, he said:

“Success is always defined by trophies, but in the first two seasons of the TATA WPL, Delhi Capitals have truly stood out with their style of play and consistency. I know they haven’t won a title yet, but they came very close last season. Given their performances, they will be one of the favourites this year as well."

Aakash Chopra talked about the concerns that might be there for Delhi Capitals. He stressed that their skipper Meg Lanning hasn't played much cricket while Shafali Verma has been out of the Indian team.

He expressed his eagerness to see how Delhi Capitals performs in the WPL 2025, adding that it’s going to be both a challenging and exciting tournament for them. He explained:

“Since Meg Lanning retired from international cricket, she hasn’t been in her best form. Meanwhile, Shafali Verma has also lost her spot in the Indian squad."

“Neither of them has been scoring runs consistently, but I’m eager to see how they perform in Season 3 of the WPL. One thing is certain—it’s going to be both challenging and exciting," sais Aakash Chopra.

While Meg Lanning hasn't played much cricket after retiring from international cricket, Shafali Verma, after getting dropped, returned to the domestic circuit. She scored 414 runs in five matches at an average of 82.80 and a strike rate of 145.26, including one hundred and three fifties in the Women’s One-Day Challenger Trophy.
