In a significant blow, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will miss the services of senior all-rounder Sophie Devine in the upcoming Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 season. Sophie Devine has decided to take a break from domestic cricket to focus on her well-being and will be returning home immediately.

Sophie Devine, who has been part of Wellington's Super Smash campaign, has scored 38 runs and taken eight wickets in five matches, including a match-winning 5 for 13 against Canterbury last Friday. However, the all-rounder will miss the remainder of the Super Smash and the ongoing domestic season.

Sophie Devine Has a Decent Break, Receives Good Support and Care - Liz Green

Head of Women’s High-Performance Development Liz Green said that Sophie Devine has received strong support from the New Zealand Cricket Players Association. Green stated that taking a break is the best course of action for Devine to ensure she gets proper rest before resuming professional cricket.

"Player well-being is paramount to us - it takes precedence over everything else," said Liz Green. "Sophie's had excellent support from the New Zealand Cricket Players Association and from our own high performance unit staff, and everyone agrees this is the best option available. "The most important thing for NZC is that Sophie has a decent break, receives good support and care, and is fit and well before returning to professional cricket".

The statement further added, "A decision on Devine's playing future will be announced in due course."

The 35-year-old has played nearly 300 international matches. In her WPL career, she played 18 matches and scored 402 runs at an average of 23.64 and a strike rate of 153.43, with a best score of 99. She has taken nine wickets at an average of 29.77 and an economy rate of 8.37.
