WTC 2023-25 prize money announced, finalists to bag over twice the previous editions’ earnings

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday, May 15, announced huge prize money for the ICC World Test Championship Final 2025 (WTC Final 2025) between South Africa and Australia.
With less than a month left before the big Test match at Lord’s, the ICC has revealed a record total prize money of a massive USD 5.76 million for the WTC Final 2025, and that is more than double what was offered in the last two editions of the prestigious game.
ICC unveils record $5.76 Million Prize Money for WTC Final 2025
The ICC confirmed that the winner of the WTC Final 2025 will take home a massive USD 3.6 million, up from just USD 1.6 million in 2021 and 2023, while the runner-up will receive USD 2.16 million, which is nearly three times more than the previous amount of USD 800,000.
Speaking on the announcement, the ICC chairman Jay Shah said that the third cycle of the World Test Championship has been thrilling, with finalists only confirmed near the end. He praised the remarkable performances from players across teams.
Jay Shah said in an official statement, “We have witnessed a very interesting third cycle of the ICC World Test Championship, where the finalists were decided only towards the end of the competition. The championship has showcased remarkable performances from players of different teams, culminating in a final between these two exceptional squads—a true celebration of cricket.”

Shah signed off by saying, “I am sure spectators at Lord’s, along with fans tuning in from all over the world, will be treated to some top-class cricket in this revered format when Australia and South Africa take the field less than a month from now. On behalf of the ICC, I extend best wishes to the players of both teams in their preparations for the prestigious match.”

Meanwhile, the ICC launched an exciting promotional video to mark the 30-day countdown to the Ultimate Test. The video features South Africa’s captain Temba Bavuma, fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, and star batter Aiden Markram. From Australia, Steve Smith and Travis Head were also seen.
The video also featured former cricket legends Shaun Pollock, Dale Steyn, Matthew Hayden, Mel Jones, Nasser Hussain, Shoaib Akhtar, and Ravi Shastri, who were describing Test cricket in the video to add hype and excitement to the WTC Final at Lord’s.

Notably, South Africa finished at the top of the World Test Championship 2023-25 points table, becoming the first team to qualify for the final at Lord’s. On the other hand, Australia earned their place in the final by defeating India 3-1 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at home.
