The former Indian batsman Aakash Chopra lauded the youngster Shubman Gill for the way he handled the New Zealand new ball bowlers and believed he is one for the future. Gill was dismissed for 28 runs but he never looked like he was playing his first test innings in England and showed that he was up for the task.

He kept playing those beautiful on drives to the boundary ropes and smacked the short balls in front of the mid-wicket. It might have been a short knock but gave the much-needed impetus from the opening pair for the likes of Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane to build up from the good start.

Aakash Chopra Sees Gill As The Picture Of India’s 21st Century

Aakash Chopra pointed out the approach of Shubman Gill being very effective in the first few overs by stepping out and Gill is being looked like the man for the future by Aakash Chopra. He added that Gill defended by coming down the track and it was far better than playing on the rise.

“This 21-year-old player is the picture of India’s 21st century. The planning starts from a few days earlier, what happens on this pitch in general, and what he has to do,. After that, the good thing was that when he was stepping out he was not playing the big shots. He was not hitting on the rise but was defending even after stepping out,” Aakash Chopra said.

Aakash Chopra Believes Shubman Gill Is Filled With Self Confidence

Aakash Chopra feels that Gill came out with a clear-cut plan while opening and he has been handling the short balls really well so far. He believes that Gill’s game plan is extraordinary for a 21-year-old and he has been oozing with self-confidence.

“He came with a proactive game plan that he wants to step out, he will not have difficulty with the short ball as they do not have much pace. If a 21-year-old shows that game plan at the outset, you feel that the thinking is filled with self-confidence,” Aakash Chopra added.
