Indian skipper Virat Kohli has said that the upcoming World Test Championship final will be a challenging affair for the No.1 ranked Test team in the world.
India will lock horns with New Zealand in the inaugural World Test Championship final at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton between June 18-22.
One of the highest concerns among Indian fans is the lack of match practice leading into the marquee encounter.
While New Zealand would have played two Test matches against England by the time the WTC final rolls around, India would have played just 1 intra-squad game.
After having spent a two-week hard quarantine in Mumbai, the Virat Kohli-led unit will land in England on June 03 where they will undergo a ten-day managed isolation, which means that they will be allowed to train after returning negative for successive RT-PCR tests during the first three days.
Speaking to the media ahead of the team’s departure, while Virat admitted that the WTC final will be challenging, he asserted that there will be no pressure on him and his team whatsoever.
“WTC final will be challenging for the team. But it’s time to enjoy what we’ve has done in past years. There’s no pressure on me and there won’t be in the future. It’s the final, so it’s time to enjoy it,” Virat Kohli said in the pre-departure presser.
On the six-week gap between the World Test Championship final and the five-match Test series against England, Virat Kohli said that the gap will be a great opportunity for the team to reflect, relax and regroup ahead of the marquee rubber.
“It’s a great opportunity to reflect and relax. Just for the guys to roam around freely, considering that we will have a five-Test series coming. It will give us time to regroup and that is required before an important series like this,” said Kohli.
