England has hosted the World Test Championship (WTC) Final in the first three editions. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is in line to host the next three WTC Finals, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is also under consideration before the final decision is made in Singapore next month.
Australia and South Africa are competing in the WTC 2025 Final. At the end of Day 3's play, South Africa are in a commanding position, needing just 69 more runs with eight wickets in hand to seal their first-ever WTC title. It’s worth noting that Australia won the final during the previous edition of the WTC.
England and India in the Race to Host Next Three WTC Finals
As per Dainik Jagran reporter Abhishek Tripathi, both India and England have emerged as leading contenders to host the World Test Championship Finals in 2027, 2029, and 2031.
The final allocation of hosting rights is expected to be revealed during the ICC’s Annual General Meeting, scheduled to take place in Singapore next month.
"England and India are contenders for 2027, 2029 and 2031 #WtcFinal . Now it remains to be seen who gets how much hosting. @ICC It will be announced in the AGM to be held in Singapore next month," Abhishek Tripathi wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

England and Wales Cricket Board Officials Informed About the ICC’s Intentions
However, according to The Telegraph, England and Wales Cricket Board officials have reportedly been informed about the ICC’s intentions, while the Board of Control for Cricket in India appears to have been sidelined.
This comes as a surprise, especially considering India’s growing clout in world cricket, underscored by Jay Shah’s recent appointment as ICC Chairman. The trend of hosting the WTC Final in England is expected to continue.
"History and prestige means Lord’s will be the strong favourite to host the game again in 2027, but conversations over exactly where it is played remain at a nascent stage. London being a global travel hub makes the capital the natural choice, but more northerly venues could come into contention. In 2027, there is no Ashes Test north of Nottingham," the Telegraph report reads.
England Have Hosted Three WTC Finals at Three Different Venues
England have hosted all three WTC Finals across different venues. The inaugural final in 2021 was played at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton after Lord’s was ruled out due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Lord’s was the original choice for the 2023 final as well, but sponsorship complications led to the match being shifted to The Oval. Now, Lord’s is finally playing host to the WTC Final for the 2023-25 cycle, with Australia and South Africa currently battling to win the coveted mace.
England has been a reliable and neutral host for the WTC Finals. The nation has yet to qualify for the final itself. Notably, the event continues to draw strong crowd support, with sellout attendances becoming a regular feature.
