Royal Challengers Bengaluru's uncapped left-arm seamer Yash Dayal has thanked the RCB team management for the backing he received in IPL 2024.
Yash Dayal was among the major buyers of Bengaluru during the IPL 2024 auction in December 2023 at the Coca-Cola arena in Dubai. He was bought alongside Lockie Ferguson and Alzarri Joseph to strengthen the RCB bowling line-up around frontline seamer Mohammed Siraj.
At first, RCB's decision to splash INR 5 Crores on Yash Dayal was criticized a lot by the fans and expert pundits, saying that he would be a flop signing. The major reason behind their prediction was in the context of Dayal getting smacked for 5 sixes in a row by Rinku Singh during a Gujarat Titans match against Kolkata in IPL 2023. However, the left-arm pacer has proved everyone wrong.
Yash Dayal reveals the conversation when he first arrived at the RCB dressing room
After arriving at the RCB dressing room as the second most expensive bowler from the auctions, Yash Dayal was heavily backed by the management. Before the acquisition of Dayal, the Andy Flower-led management had spent a shocking INR 11.50 Crores on West Indies' Alzarri Joseph, which eventually proved to be a buy that didn't work out at all.
But Yash Dayal worked very well for the RCB. Unlike last season when he was dropped following the Rinku Singh altercation, Faf du Plessis backed the 26-year-old to help Bengaluru in their cause. In a recent interview, Dayal revealed that he was told by the coaching staff and captain that he would be an important player for the team.
Not just him but the RCB management said the same thing to every youngster in the team and results are in front of us. After going an entire month without winning, the South-Indian franchise qualified for the IPL 2024 play-offs literally from the depths of shadows.
"RCB has backed me a lot, when I came to the team, they told me 'I am an important player' and they did to all youngsters & that is showing in the results."
Last night at the M. Chinnaswamy, the Royal Challengers hunted down the reigning champions by 27 runs and knocked the Super Kings out. Bengaluru will now face either Rajasthan Royals or Sunrisers Hyderabad in their 1st Eliminator match and then in the 2nd Qualifier if they win the 3rd and 4th placed team match.
Yash Dayal's performance in IPL 2024
The Gujarat Titans outcast from last season experienced his best IPL season so far in IPL 2024, playing more matches than he did in a full season. Yash Dayal had missed just one game in this edition but out of the 13 games, he collected 15 wickets by conceding 422 runs. What was more impressive was his economy rate of 8.94 and he had a best of 3/20 against Delhi Capitals.
Last night against the CSK, Dayal might have gone for 42 runs from 4 overs but he made sure that he returned to the dressing room with 2 important wickets. He first removed the dangerous Daryl Mitchell for 4 off 6 and then MS Dhoni for 25 off 13.
