Harshit Rana has been ruled out of India's upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan and the 2026 Asian Games after suffering a rectus femoris strain during a match simulation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. The fast bowler was progressing well in his rehabilitation before sustaining the injury while bowling on September 7.
The Men's Selection Committee has named Yash Thakur as Rana's replacement in both India's Afghanistan T20I squad and the Asian Games squad. The 27-year-old Vidarbha pacer recently made his T20I debut during India's tour of Zimbabwe and has now received another opportunity at the international level.

Harshit Rana was progressing well during his rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence before suffering the injury during a match simulation. The rectus femoris strain has ruled him out of India's upcoming assignments against Afghanistan as well as the 2026 Asian Games.
Rana was part of India's squad for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, which is scheduled to be played in Delhi from September 13 to 17. He was also included in India's squad for the Asian Games.
With Rana unavailable, the Men's Selection Committee has brought in Yash Thakur as his replacement for both squads. The Vidarbha fast bowler has already had a taste of international cricket after making his T20I debut on India's tour of Zimbabwe in July.
