Legendary Pakistan batter Younis Khan has stirred up a controversy by delivering a scathing attack on Pakistan’s Test captain Shan Masood after the national team's devastating defeat to England in the ongoing three-match Test series at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan.

Pakistan became the first team in Test cricket history to lose a match by an innings after posting over 500 runs in the first innings. England’s staggering response of 823 runs left Pakistan reeling, and the match ended with a humiliating defeat by an innings and 47 runs in Multan.

This humiliating loss against England has further highlighted Pakistan's ongoing struggle in Test cricket, with the team now enduring over 1,350 days without a Test victory at home.

After the outcome, the former Pakistan captain Younis Khan, visibly frustrated by the team's performance, didn't hold back in his criticism during a recent event, and Shan Masood and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) were on his radar.

Without directly naming Shan Masood and PCB, the legendary batter delivered a scathing assessment of the leadership in the Pakistan cricket team, saying crucial decisions are being influenced by superficial qualities rather than cricketing merit.

Younis Khan noted that leadership issues are at the core of the team’s struggles, warning the PCB to rethink their leadership choices before the situation goes further out of control.

Younis Khan said in a viral video: “There are no qualities to lead a team in an individual, neither he is a leader material… still he has been given the responsibilities. Just because the people feel that ye hmari sunta hai, achha padha likha hai, ye English, Urdu, Pashto achhi bolta hai to isko kaptaan bana do (He may not be a good player but if he listens to us, and speaks good English, Urdu and Pashto… so let’s make him the captain). Please, get rid of this thinking.”

Meanwhile, it is being said that PCB and Pakistan cricket team management is considering dropping Babar Azam for the second Test against England, starting on October 15 in Multan.

This move is believed to have been advised by the recently established selection committee, which held a meeting in Lahore and Multan shortly after Pakistan's defeat in the first Test against England.

Babar Azam set to be dropped from Pakistan Test team

The decision seems to be part of a broader strategy to address the team’s recent struggles. An ESPNCricinfo report claimed: “It is understood the selection panel collectively felt Babar would benefit from time away from the national side as runs remain elusive.”

The newly formed selection panel consists of Aaqib Javed, Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali, former ICC umpire Aleem Dar, and analyst Hassan Cheema, along with the captain and head coach of the respective format, who met recently to discuss the team strategy to stage a comeback against England.

On Saturday, October 12, the Pakistan selectors had discussions with the Test captain Shan Masood and head coach Jason Gillespie. While a few mentors expressed support for retaining Babar Azam, the majority leaned towards dropping the former captain from the squad.
