There was something in it for the bowlers - Shubman Gill on the pitch
Winning the toss and bowling first, the Mohammed Siraj-led attack decimated the RCB batting unit and restricted them to a mere 169/8. Chasing the target, Jos Buttler (73*), Sai Sudharsan (49), and Sherfane Rutherford (30*) played good knocks and steered GT to a win in 17.5 overs.
Speaking after the match, GT skipper Shubman said that the pitch had some assistance for the bowlers in both the innings and they focused on batting and bowling well in the powerplay. Shubman Gill said:
"Definitely. We have seen on this ground, restricting them to 170 was very good. To be honest, it's surprising. Sometimes, the wicket here looks good and we may score 250. Sometimes, the bowlers get plenty of assistance.
"There was something in it for the bowlers. We thought if we don't lose wickets in the powerplay, we can chase down the total."
You are disappointed - Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill further talked about Jos Buttler dropping Phil Salt in the first over of the match off Mohammed Siraj and said:
"You are disappointed, but you need to keep coming back; grab the next opportunity."
Shubman Gill signed off by saying that he was quite happy with the performance of GT's batting unit, considering the condition that was on offer. He said:
"Kind of wicket it was, we batted professionally. It's all about adapting to the situations. It may be that we play on a completely different wicket. We have to adapt to the conditions and play accordingly."
How did GT perform in the previous IPL match against RCB?
Gujarat Titans' previous IPL match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru took place on May 4 in the Indian Premier League 2024. They endured a tough outing and suffered a four-wicket defeat at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Being invited to bat first, GT’s innings got off to a disastrous start. Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill were dismissed by Mohammed Siraj while Sai Sudharsan departed for 6, leaving GT reeling at 23/3 inside the powerplay.
A brief recovery was staged by Shahrukh Khan, who played a counter-attacking 37 runs off 24 balls, and David Miller, who chipped in with a handy 30 runs. Rahul Tewatia provided late fireworks with a quick 35 runs off 21, but GT kept losing wickets at regular intervals and got bowled out for 147 in 19.3 overs.
With the ball also GT started poorly as the bowling unit was decimated by Faf du Plessis' brutal knock of 64 runs. Virat Kohli also batted well and chipped in with a good 42 runs.
Then, Josh Little and Noor Ahmad staged a small comeback for the Gujarat Titans as the pacer bagged a 4-wicket haul while the spin-bowler picked up 2 wickets. They reduced RCB from 92/0 to 117/6, but still, they comfortably chased the target in just 13.4 overs.
