Former Indian batter Wasim Jaffer has shared his views on the Vaibhav Sooryavanshi controversy and sent a strong message to the 15-year-old youngster ahead of his debut in international cricket. His views came after BCCI issued official statement on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi drama.

The drama happened after India A lost a thrilling Super Over against Sri Lanka A. As the Sri Lankan players celebrated the win, things suddenly got heated on the field. Vaibhav was involved in an argument with Sri Lankan player Vishen Halambage.

It is being said that some words were exchanged between the two players, and the situation turned ugly and a physical confrontation occurred in no time. Players from both sides and match officials had to step in as the incident caught the attention of the entire world.

After the controversy, Wasim Jaffer slammed Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for getting physical with the Sri Lankan player, suggesting he stay calm in such situations. He warned the teenager that the rival players will continue trying to distract or provoke him during matches because he has become a big name at such a young age.

Jaffer has stressed that Vaibhav ‘should not retaliate this soon and not at all get physical.' However, the cricket pundit has pointed out that he is not saying it was the left-hander’s fault, but he still needs to understand that ‘being physical is not acceptable no matter what.'

Wasim Jaffer said on his YouTube channel, “I feel Vaibhav must learn this. He is playing with a lot of hype, and because he has a name now, people will try to provoke him and go against him. He needs to control his temper. This should not happen again, and you do not want to be in the news for the wrong reason. He is a role model for many young players, so he needs to see all this. He will live and learn.”

'You cannot react this soon': Jaffer to Vaibhav

The former opener also pointed out that many great players faced similar situations during their careers but handled them calmly, and he hopes he will learn important lessons from this incident. Now, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi must show his talent in Belfast.

Jaffer further noted, “I feel he needs to control his temper a bit. You cannot react this soon. You have Sachin as a great role model with a similar journey. You never saw anything like this with him.”

'Don't Cross the Line': Wasim Jaffer's big advice to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

The former PBKS coach admitted that the on-field banter, some aggression, and competitive spirit are normal in cricket, but the players must make sure things do not cross the line.

He signed off by saying, “As long as you don't cross the line and get personal, all this is fine. A bit of it should be there too, as the game is at such a high intensity. It tests your mental strength as well along with your skills. But you have to make sure you do not cross the line.”

Well, Vaibhav has been decent with the bat in the one-day tri-series so far in Sri Lanka. The young batter has scored 117 runs in four matches but has yet to play a match-winning knock for India A.
