London Spirit batting coach Dinesh Karthik shared a lighthearted moment with South Africa batter Dewald Brevis during a training session at The Hundred 2026. Dinesh Karthik offered to teach Brevis a new shot to add to his batting but jokingly told him not to use it against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL.
London Spirit trained at Lord's on July 22 ahead of their opening match of the 2026 season. The London-based side will face Manchester Originals at Lord's on Thursday, July 23. Notably, the franchise hired the entire RCB coaching staff, including Mo Bobat, head coach Andy Flower and Dinesh Karthik.
Dinesh Karthik Jokes About Teaching Dewald Brevis a New Shot
During London Spirit's training session at Lord's, Dewald Brevis spent time batting in the nets before speaking with Dinesh Karthik. The South African batter told Karthik that he wanted to add a new shot to his game and asked for his help.
Brevis revealed that he had tried the shot while practicing with a bowling machine during his younger days. The batter said that he would love to master it under Karthik's guidance during their time together at London Spirit.
"When I was younger, I used to try it in the nets with the bowling machine. I would love to."
Karthik agreed to help Brevis learn the shot but added a condition. The former India wicketkeeper joked that Brevis could use the shot against any team, except Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
"We'll work on that when we have time. It'll be a good shot to add to your arsenal. But the only condition is that you can't play it against RCB. Other than that, it's fine."
IPL banter has reached the Hundred.

Dinesh Karthik to Continue as Royal Challengers Bengaluru's Batting Coach
Dinesh Karthik hinted that he is likely to continue as Royal Challengers Bengaluru's batting coach. Karthik signed a contract as a batting coach and mentor for the RCB ahead of the 2025 season, shortly after retiring from his playing career.
Earlier this month, several unconfirmed reports claimed that Chennai Super Kings were considering Karthik as a candidate to replace Stephen Fleming as head coach. The speculation gained attention after CSK ended Fleming's long and successful spell with the franchise.
There has been no official announcement. Karthik's joke also caught fans' attention because Brevis represents Chennai Super Kings, one of RCB's biggest rivals in the IPL's popular "Southern Derby."
London Spirit Bring RCB's Coaching Team Together
London Spirit have strengthened their coaching setup by bringing in several key members of Royal Challengers Bengaluru's support staff ahead of The Hundred 2026. The franchise partnered with the IPL 2026 champions to improve its performances.
Head coach Andy Flower and batting coach Dinesh Karthik have taken charge of the team. RCB Director of Cricket Mo Bobat, scout Malolan Rangarajan, and team analyst Freddie Wilde also joined the team.
London Spirit will hope the new coaching group can turn their fortunes around this season. They begin their The Hundred 2026 campaign against Manchester Originals at Lord's on Thursday, July 23, with the match scheduled to start at 11:00 PM IST.
