Dinesh Karthik said on the RCB podcast: “I knew that I couldn't represent the country anymore. I knew that my training will not be the same that it could be. When I can’t give the same intensity or the same time and energy required for the excel, then I thought that’s enough. I believe that you should leave this sport when people ask why not when. So that also played a part.”

Dinesh Karthik says not everyone knows when to quit

The former Indian wicketkeeper also emphasized the importance of knowing one’s place in the system and not expecting special treatment just because of past achievements, launching another attack on MS Dhoni, who won everything as captain both in the international arena and IPL.

Karthik signed off by saying, “People get the respect because of the place where they are. As long as you understand your place in the whole ecosystem, you will be happy. But the moment you think you are a big deal and people are doing things constantly because of who you are, and you come out of that space, that’s the biggest challenge. People are respecting you and treating you because of everything around the space.”

RCB is thriving while CSK is sinking in the IPL 2025

Meanwhile, RCB is on a roll in the ongoing IPL 2025, where they crushed Mumbai Indians by 12 runs in their latest game at the Wankhede Stadium. They will next face Delhi Capitals in the tournament on April 10 in Delhi, followed by Rajasthan Royals on April 13 in Jaipur.

On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings have been struggling to deliver in the ongoing IPL 2025, where they suffered three defeats in a row and won only one game. They are now standing at the ninth spot in the IPL 2025 points table with only 2 points.

Shane Watson backs MS Dhoni and CSK amidst struggles

However, the former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson believes that Chennai Super Kings can never be written off, no matter the situation. The former CSK star also urged people not to count out MS Dhoni and coach Stephen Fleming, saying they always manage to bounce back.

Watson admitted that Dhoni no longer plays long innings, but he still finishes games brilliantly, saying CSK only needs a strong start from the top order to set things up for him in the tournament.
