Younis Khan has taken a dig at Pakistan captain Babar Azam after leading Pakistan Champions to victory over India Champions in the World Championship of Legends. The first edition of the World Championship of Legends 2024 (WCL 2024) is going in full swing in England. This T20 tournament is being organized by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in the United Kingdom (UK) from July 3, with the final set to be played on July 13 in Birmingham.

Several retired cricketers across the world, like Yuvraj Singh, Shoaib Akhtar, Brett Lee, Shahid Afridi, Jacques Kallis, JP Duminy, Dale Steyn, Chris Gayle, and Daren Sammy, have been once again setting the stage on fire with their games in England.

A total of six teams—Australian Champions, England Champions, India Champions, Pakistan Champions, South Africa Champions, and West Indies Champions—are competing against each other to win the WCL 2024. Well, arch-rivals India and Pakistan faced each other in the 8th match of the tournament on July 6 at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham.

Pakistan thrashes India, ending their winning streak in WCL 2024

Pakistan Champions performed exceptionally well to end India's two-game winning streak in the ongoing WCL 2024, as they handed their arch-rivals a massive defeat of 68 runs to register a hattrick of wins in the tournament in Birmingham.

Kamran Akmal's (77) and Sharjeel Khan's (72) opening partnership of 145 runs proved too costly for the Harbhajan Singh-led India Champions in the WCL 2024 game. After winning the toss, India decided to bowl first, and this call backfired on them as Pakistan went on to post a mammoth total of 243/4 on the board in their 20 overs in Birmingham.

Apart from Akmal and Sharjeel, Sohaib Maqsood also smashed a fifty to help Pakistan post a challenging target against India. Shoaib Malik also played an unbeaten knock of 25 runs off 18 balls.

For India, RP Singh, Anureet Singh, Pawan Negi, and Dhawal Kulkarni each snared one wicket against the Pakistan Champions. Chasing 244 runs for victory, the India Champions could manage only 175/9 in their 20 overs.

Robin Uthappa (22), Ambati Rayudu (39), Suresh Raina (52), and Anureet Singh (20*) managed to cross the 20-run mark while Yuvraj Singh and Irfan Pathan failed to recreate their past magic against Pakistan, losing the game by 68 runs on Saturday.

Wahab Riaz and Shoaib Malik’s three-wicket haul played a key role in Pakistan’s massive win over India in Birmingham. Sohail Khan and Sohail Tanveer also got one piece each against their archrivals.

We wanted to beat India for Pakistani fans: Younis Khan

Sharjeel Khan was named Player of the Match for his quick knock of 72 runs off 30 balls against India. After the match, Pakistan Champions captain Younis Khan expressed his elation at being able to beat India in the WCL 2024 after their national team’s ICC T20 World Cup 2024 disappointments.

The former Pakistani great said that Pakistan Champions wanted to beat India for their fans after their crushing loss to Team India in the T20 World Cup 2024, which eventually knocked them out of the tournament.

Younis Khan said at the post-match presser, “The way Pakistan lost and got knocked out of the 2024 T20 World Cup was very disappointing. We wanted to defeat India and give our fans something to smile about.”
