While the entire nation was celebrating the blistering half-century of Abhishek Sharma, his mentor and guide, Yuvraj Singh, chose to take a funny jab at him. Last night in Guwahati, Abhishek Sharma smashed a 14-ball half-century, which is now the second-fastest half-century scored by any Indian batter in the T20 International format.

Guess who the fastest batter to score a fifty in the T20Is is? It was none other than Yuvraj Singh. Sharma went very close to breaking his mentor's all-time record during the India vs. New Zealand 3rd T20I at the Barsapara Stadium, falling short of it by only two balls. Yuvraj touched the half-century mark in 12 balls, and Sharma did that in 14 balls.

A record-breaking knock by Abhishek Sharma

During the presentation ceremony, due to a natural cause, Sharma was asked about the record of Yuvraj. Like before, this time too, the attacking batter chose to remain close to the ground and said that the record set by the former international batter is almost impossible to break.

"Yuvraj Paaji's (Yuvraj Singh) 12-ball fifty is impossible to beat," Abhishek Sharma said after the match.

On the other side, Yuvraj Singh, the former cricketer and the all-time record holder, made a funny comment on Sharma. Singh jokingly said that Sharma's batting was extremely good in Guwahati, but still was not enough to break his 12-ball half-century record.

"Still can’t get 50 off 12 balls, can you? Well played—keep going strong!" Yuvraj Singh wrote on his 'X' post on the night of January 25.

It is worth noting that Yuvraj Singh got the 12-ball fifty during the heavily discussed India vs. England ICC T20 World Cup 2007 match, when he thrashed English pacer Stuart Broad for the infamous six sixes in an over.

Summary of India vs New Zealand 3rd T20I

It was the third consecutive victory for Team India in the ongoing 5-match T20I series against New Zealand. With the dominating win in Guwahati, the Men in Blue already captured the series with two more matches to be played. Abhishek Sharma was the best batter of the match as he played a match-winning knock of 68 runs off 20 deliveries only. The southpaw smashed five over boundaries and seven boundaries to make the batting illustrious.

New Zealand went to bat first and registered 153/9 in 20 overs after losing their three top-order batters quickly. Harshit Rana, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah spent no time damaging the opponents' batting lineup. Riding high on Sharma's innings, India claimed the target total in only 10 overs, winning the match by 8 wickets.
