Yograj Singh backs Rohit Sharma in International Cricket for the next 5 years

Not much to the shock of ICT fans or Cricket pundits, Yograj Singh, the former cricketer, has claimed that Indian skipper Rohit Sharma should continue playing the international 50-over format for at least 5 years from now.

Amid the recent speculation over the hanging dagger of retirement over the heads of Rohit and Virat Kohli, Yograj Singh recognises the batters' calibre to take down any bowler effortlessly till now. He recalls Rohit's stunning performance from the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy final, where he single-handedly took his team to a near win.

"BCCI should ask Rohit Sharma to play for another 5 years. He has that class that he can play cricket till 40/45 years," claims Yograj Singh, as quoted by News18.

"Playing Domestic Cricket is Important," Yograj Singh admits

Yograj Singh has admitted to the fact that for any player playing international cricket, domestic games would be a means to keep them fit and in the game. He admits that playing domestic cricket often helps batters to keep up their form and safeguard their fitness.

He also says the BCCI and the Indian management can ask Rohit to regain fitness with a tougher routine and do something more for the nation by playing for India in the coming years, since he identifies that Rohit's brilliance is still needed in the Indian team, especially in ICC tournaments.

Considering that he has retired from the other two formats, Rohit would only be playing the IPL and the ODI formats, which would keep him off the field for most of the year. Hence, to keep up his form, he was urged to feature in the Vijay Hazare Trophy; however, whether Rohit turns up or not would be one affair to look on.

Rohit Sharma's captaincy snub has made the buzz on the Internet

Ever since Shubman Gill stood out as a confident skipper in the Test series in England, there has been buzz over turning the ODI captaincy also to the youngster, since Rohit Sharma is not a probable option to continue till the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.

India is citing plans, as a captain needs a minimum of 2 years to prepare a likely playing 11 for as big a tournament as the CWC. With Rohit turning 40 in 2027, there is a very slim probability of him featuring for India in the World Cup, and then likely Shubman Gill would have to step in as the skipper.

Though there has been no formal statement issued by the Indian management or the BCCI, the rumour has spread like wildfire over social media platforms.
