Yuvraj Singh’s Father Yograj Singh attacks Shahid Afridi after WCL Drama
PC: X

India Champions skipper Yuvraj Singh's father, Yograj Singh, blasted former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi for issuing unnecessary statements on aspects of the India vs Pakistan game, which has been influenced by political controversies.

The India vs Pakistan tensions have heightened over the last few months due to the terror attack on Pahalgam valley and followed by India's counterattack with Operation Sindoor. All these have not only messed up the current geopolitical situation but have also strained the cricketing relations between the two nations.

India Champions denied playing against Pakistan Champions in the World Championship of Legends, while the India National side had to face public outrage after a match between India and Pakistan was scheduled for the Asia Cup 2025 by the ACC and accepted by the BCCI.

Yograj Singh blasts Shahid Afridi for unnecessary remarks

Amid the India Champions side, the defending champions of the World Championship of Legends inaugural season decided to give Pakistan a free entry into the finals of the second edition of the competition; former cricket player Yuvraj Singh's father has a say on this issue.

Yuvi's father, Yograj Singh, has often indulged in controversies for his statements. This time around, he has issued a clear question to the Pakistani players (with a focus on Shahid Afridi) as to why they make unnecessary remarks on the India vs Pakistan game.

"What is your need to comment on this? First, Iftikhar said something while Shahid Afridi followed. Many people asked me, and I said, What can I say here?. This is not some kind of personal enmity, as this is concerned with the politicians and the government since these are politically motivated decisions," said Yograj Singh.

He also added that "...everyone bears the fruit of their rights as well as wrongs," while he also referred to Indian scriptures as well as Indian history.

India Champions gave Pakistan Champions a walkover in the WCL 2025 semi-final

The India Champions side, currently led by the former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, decided not to feature against Pakistan Champions in the inaugural match of the season, as a result of which the authorities had to cancel the game, and the two teams settled with one point each.

However, after the Pakistan Champions and the India Champions qualified for the semi-finals, it was no longer a fixture that could be cancelled. Despite that, the India Champions and the veteran players all decided not to play against the neighbouring rivals.

As a result of this, the match was treated as a forfeit or a walkover, where the Pakistan Champions qualified for the finals without playing a single ball, and the India Champions walked out with broad smiles on their faces.

Shahid Afridi's derogatory remark on India Champions ahead of the WCL semi-final clash

After the India Champions opted not to feature against the Pakistan Champions, skipper Shahid Afridi, who had put forward a daring statement in the press release, was left helpless at Birmingham and could only witness them leaving from the balcony.

Shahid Afridi was convinced that the India Champions would be forced to play in the knockouts after they cancelled the group stage match, as he could not sense that the defending champions would so easily let go of their chance to retain their WCL title.

"Pata nahi ab kis muh se khelga par khelega hamare sath hi (Don't know which face India will play with, but they will have to play against us only)," Afridi's provocative statement before the semi-final game.
