Punjab Kings (PBKS) leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal finally got the big wicket of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) icon Virat Kohli with a smart and well-planned delivery during the ongoing IPL 2026 clash at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala on Sunday, May 17.
Chahal might be the IPL’s leading wicket taker, but Kohli has always been the biggest hurdle for the leg-spinner. Despite sharing the Royal Challengers Bengaluru dressing room for years, the seasoned spinner couldn’t find a trick to get the better of the former Indian captain.
In the IPL history, Chahal managed to dismiss Kohli only two times. Firstly, Kohli was caught at deep mid-wicket while attempting a slog sweep shot during the Rajasthan Royals vs RCB Eliminator match in 2024 and now in the ongoing IPL 2026 clash in Dharamshala on Sunday.
Clever trap by Yuzvendra Chahal sends dangerous Virat Kohli back in big IPL 2026 clash
Yuzvendra Chahal delivered the slower ball and gave it good flight around middle and leg stump to tempt his former RCB teammate Virat Kohli into attacking. The informed batter tried to play a stylish, wristy flick towards the leg side and wanted to clear the fielder at deep mid-wicket.
However, the ball went much straighter and toward the fielder. Kohli failed to get enough height on the shot, so instead of going over the boundary, the ball stayed in the air, and Priyansh Arya, who was standing at deep mid-wicket, judged it perfectly and completed a stunning catch.
Chahal eventually provided a massive breakthrough to PBKS as Kohli went back to the pavilion after scoring a brilliant knock of 58 runs off 37 balls, including 4 fours and 3 sixes. Notably, the PBKS spinner has had a mixed IPL 2026 season, taking 9 wickets so far.
