Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and elected to bat first against Punjab Kings. Xavier Bartlett used the overcast conditions well to dismiss Finn Allen and Cameron Green early. The home side was at 25/2 in 3.4 overs before rain stopped play.
Groundsmen quickly covered the Eden Gardens pitch as strong winds and heavy rain arrived. The rain stopped briefly and covers were removed, but showers returned soon. Water near the boundary created unsafe outfield conditions, making it impossible to resume play.
Match umpires conducted multiple inspections before calling off the game with the consent of both captains. Kolkata Knight Riders earned one point after their two losses, while Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings remained unbeaten this season.
