Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is back in England, and he’s wasting no time making headlines once again while playing for Northamptonshire in the County Championship Division One 2025. Yuzvendra Chahal stole the show with a stunning delivery that clean-bowled Ekansh Singh for 37.

The star Indian spinner went wicketless in the first innings but bowled an impressive spell against Kent in the county game. Chahal bowled 8 maiden overs in his 42 overs—the most in the innings by a Northamptonshire—and conceded 129 runs to Kent at St. Lawrence Ground in Canterbury.

The seasoned leg-spinner returned even more lethal in the second innings, where he finished with the impressive figures of 4/51 in his 30 overs as Kent managed to draw the County Championship game against Northamptonshire in Canterbury on June 29.

Well, Chahal’s magic got to be seen in the eighth over when Kent was struggling after an early blow by Liam Guthrie, who dismissed Jaydan Denly for just two runs. The Indian leg-spinner produced an absolute gem to remove the number three batter, Ekansh Singh.

It was a vintage, artful, and deadly Chahal delivery that was hard to read and play. The ball drifted in smoothly, dipped wickedly in flight, and spun sharply to crash into the off stump, completely deceiving the batter. The crowd erupted as the Kent batter walked away in shock.

Later, Matt Parkinson, survived for 12 balls before falling victim to Chahal’s clever bowling. It was Justin Broad who took his third catch of the innings to send Parkinson back for just 2 runs. Then, on the very next ball, Chahal scalped another scalp.

This time, Wes Agar went for a wild swing but only managed to edge it. Lewis McManus made no mistake behind the stumps, and Agar was out for a golden duck against Chahal. Earlier, he had removed Kent opener Ben Compton for just 17 runs off 84 balls in Canterbury.

Chahal’s return to the side for a second straight season has already shown signs of magic. The Northamptonshire County Cricket Club is now hoping the leg-spinner will continue his stunning form not just in the County Championship 2025 but also across the white-ball formats.

Yuzvendra Chahal excited to replicate last season's success

Last year, Yuzvendra Chahal stunned English fans with a career-best 9/99 against Derbyshire and picked up 19 wickets in just four County Championship games at an average of 21. His late-season heroics played a major role in Northamptonshire’s standings and earned praise for his red-ball skills.

Earlier, on his return to the club, Chahal had stated, “I thoroughly enjoyed my time here last season, so I’m very happy to be coming back. There are some great people in that dressing room, and I can’t wait to be part of that again."

"We played some great cricket towards the back end of the season, so hopefully, we’re able to replicate that and big up some victories.”
