Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal has finally opened up about his divorce from Dhanashree Verma. He revealed what went wrong in their marriage and how it affected his mental well-being.

Chahal and Dhanashree Verma got married in 2020, but things started going downhill after a few years of their marriage. The leg-spinner revealed that both he and Dhanashree had decided to keep their separation away from the public eye until the divorce was final.

Yuzvendra Chahal told Raj Shamani on his YouTube channel, “It was going on for a long while. We decided we do not want to show the people. Who would know if it did not happen? Maybe it will become a different scenario. We were like, until we reached a point of no return, we were not going to say anything, we will be like a normal couple on social media.”

Chahal explained that balancing their personal lives with demanding careers became difficult. While the Indian cricketer was committed to his responsibilities as a cricketer, Dhanashree was equally busy with her professional life. This caused them to drift apart emotionally over time.

He admitted that relationships need effort and understanding from both sides. But when two people have different personalities and goals, it can be challenging to make things work. Their busy schedules left little time for each other, and gradually, the distance between them grew.

Chahal said that he was so busy with many things that he couldn’t focus on the relationship. Day by day, it became harder, and he started feeling like giving up. He further explained, “A relationship is like a compromise. If one gets angry, the other has to listen. Sometimes the nature of two people does not match. This was going on for 1-2 years.

Two ambitious people can stay together. Everyone has their own lives, everyone has their own goals. As a partner, you have to support it. You are working for something for 18-20 years; you cannot leave it for a relationship.”

Yuzvendra Chahal Breaks down in reaction to cheating allegations during divorce

He said that it was a tough phase for him when some people wrongly accused him of cheating during his divorce. It was hurtful for him, as he has always been loyal and caring in relationships.

The leg-spinner added that his parents have taught him how to respect women, and he knows how to treat people with kindness, having grown up with his two sisters since childhood. He felt it was unfair that people made false claims without knowing the truth, just to get views.

Chahal added, “I think when my divorce happened, people alleged I was a cheater. I have never cheated in my life, I am not that kind of person. You won't find anyone more loyal than me. I think from my heart for my close ones, always, I do not demand, I always give. When people don't know anything, but they keep blaming me, so you start thinking [otherwise].”

Chahal shared that dealing with public pressure, rumors around his life, and personal problems deeply affected his mental health. He went through a very tough time with sleepless nights, depression, and even thoughts of ending his life.

The spinner said that the stress became so overwhelming that he couldn’t focus on cricket and felt completely drained.

Yuzvendra Chahal signed off by saying, “I had suicidal thoughts, I was tired of my life, and I used to cry for 2 hours. I used to sleep for just 2 hours. It went for 40-45 days. I wanted a break from cricket. I was so busy with cricket, I was not able to concentrate, I used to sleep for 2 hours. Used to share suicidal thoughts with my friend. I used to get scared.”
