Tadiwanashe Marumani, Zimbabwe’s opening batsman, has been called up for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan. The 20-year-old last played for Zimbabwe in a T20I against Scotland in September 2021.

The decision to enhance the batting order comes after Zimbabwe failed to put up a considerable opening partnership in any of three One-Day Internationals against the Asian side lately. Afghanistan won 3-0 against the African country.

In September 2021, Marumani last performed in Scotland. He was left out of Zimbabwe’s squad for the recent series against Namibia, as well as the ODIs against Afghanistan.

The 20-year-old is the sole newcomer on the list, having played 11 T20Is and scoring 118 runs.

Tanaka Chivanga and Takudzwanashe Kaitano, who were part of the ODI squad that recently faced Afghanistan, were not retained. Following the T20I series, Zimbabwe will host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier B 2022, which will take place in July.

Tadiwanashe Marumani has returned to the Zimbabwe team:

A three-match T20I series will be played between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan. The first T20I encounter between ZIM and AFG is scheduled for June 11th (Saturday). Harare Sports Club in Harare will host the match. Craig Ervine is Zimbabwe’s captain in the Twenty20 International series.
