Zimbabwe will take on Sri Lanka in the second of the two-match ODI series. This article provides details about Zimbabwe's Playing 11 vs Sri Lanka for the second match of the series.
Zimbabwe Playing 11 vs Sri Lanka- 2nd ODI, Sri Lanka Tour of Zimbabwe 2025:
Openers: Brian Bennett, Ben Curran
The home team would like to learn from the mistakes they made, although there were not a great deal of them in the first ODI against Sri Lanka.
Zimbabwe ticked the majority of the boxes in the opening match of the series, but still fell agonizingly short of what could have been a famous victory over Sri Lanka
Still, there are some areas that the team would like to emphasize in the second ODI, which is also a series decider.
One of them is the lack of prominent partnership at the start and in the middle overs, which was one of the reasons that the batters were not able to accelerate the manner in which they would have liked.
The onus will be on the two openers, Brian Bennett and Ben Curran, to get the team off to a solid start.
Benett will also look to get some runs under his belt as he was dismissed for a duck in the last match, while Curran, who scored a fifty, would like to carry the same form in the second game.
Middle-order batsmen and all-rounders: Brendan Taylor (wk), Sean Williams (c), Sikandar Raza, Wessly Madhevere, Tony Munyonga
The openers will be followed by a middle order that showed great resilience and almost pulled the game in favour of Zimbabwe, and includes names like Brendan Taylor, Sean Williams, and Sikandar Raza.
The senior players will be assisted by youngsters like Wessly Madhevere and Tony Munyonga.
The team management will have faith in the middle-order batters after what they did in the first match of the series. However, the responsibility will be on the top five batters to score the bulk of the runs for the team.
Bowlers: Brad Evans, Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani, Trevor Gwandu
Zimbabwe would be somewhat satisfied with the way their bowlers bowled in the opening ODI against Sri Lanka and would hope for them to build on it come the second match.
Having said that, the captain would want the bowlers to pick wickets in all three phases of the innings.
The new ball bowling pair of Richard Ngrava and Blessing Muzarabani started well and kept the pressure from both ends in the first hour of play, and were well supported by the change bowlers.
But the story was a bit different when the Sri Lankan innings ended as the duo of Kamindu Mendis and Janith Liyanage dictated the game in the final powerplay.
A major concern for the Sean Williams-led side was the lack of wickets once the ball got old, and that is something the bowling lineup would like to correct in the upcoming game.
Like the first match, the home team will go with four fast bowlers in the form of Brad Evans, Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani, and Trevor Gwandu, with Evans being the fast bowling all-rounder.
As far as the team's spin bowling department is concerned, it will be handled by Sikandar Raza, who did a fine job in the first ODI, and will be supported by the captain for the series, Sean Williams.
