Zimbabwe Playing XI vs Sri Lanka- Pakistan T20I Tri Series 2025, Match 2:
Openers: Brian Bennett, Tadiwanashe Marumani
Zimbabwe would like to rectify the mistakes the team made in the first game of the tri-nation series against Pakistan in order to stand a good chance of winning the next fixture against Sri Lanka.
The Sikandar Raza-led side would want to focus on two things the first one being the performance of the middle order, which underwent a collapse in the opening game, and the bowling in the final five overs.
Zimbabwe had a couple of moments in the match that they could have pounced on in each innings, but failed to do so and ended up losing a game that could have gone either way.
Having said that, the team should go into the second match with the same personnel that took the field in the previous game, as they were in touching distance of getting off to a winning start with Brian Bennett and Tadiwanashe Marumani opening the innings.
Amidst the chances that Zimbabwe couldn't capitalise on, Brian Bennett made full use of the opportunity at the top of the order and scored an attacking half-century, which enabled the team to post a challenging total.
Bennett would be entrusted to keep up the good work in the second match as well and get another substantial score under his belt.
Bennett's partner, Marumani, on the other hand, provided good support to him. Although he failed to convert the start that he got, he did his job and would look to accomplish the goal of scoring at least a half-century in this particular match against Sri Lanka.
Middle-order batsmen and all-rounders: Brendan Taylor (wk), Sikandar Raza (c), Ryan Burl, Tony Munyonga, Brad Evans
It was Zimbabwe's middle order that let the team down, as a result of which they could only score 147 runs while batting first against Pakistan.
The middle order, which comprises names like Brendan Taylor, Ryan Burl, and Sikandar Raza, saw a couple of batters being run out, which is a bit too many in a T20I game.
The only shining light in an otherwise disappointing performance was the team's captain, Sikandar Raza, who made a valuable contribution at the backend of the innings and took them to a challenging total.
The team management would want the middle order to come good to increase Zimbabwe's chances of posting an above-par total.
Bowlers: Tashinga Musekiwa, Graeme Cremer, Tinotenda Maposa, Richard Ngarava
Unlike the team's batting, the bowlers did a decent job while defending a total of 147 runs by reducing Pakistan to 54-4 at one stage, but failed to close out the game due to some poor fielding in the penultimate over.
The Zimbanwean bowling lineup, which has six options in the form of Sikandar Raza, Brad Evans, Tashinga Musekiwa, Graeme Cremer, Tinotenda Maposa, and Richard Ngarava, will need to put on a similar effort in the upcoming game.
Having said that, they would also want the batters to deliver a much improved performance and post a score of at least 160-170 for them to have a better chance of restricting the Sri Lankan batters.
In addition to it, the Rainbow Nation would also wish for a better effort in the field from the fielders, which was one of the reasons the team ended up on the wrong side of the result against Pakistan.
