India’s Champions Trophy campaign ended in the worst-possible manner. What started with a resounding victory over arch-rivals Pakistan ended with a humiliating loss against the same opposition. With a dominating 13-2 lead record against their bitter rivals at major ICC events and the team in supreme form, India walked into the final as the firm favourites. However, just like the umpteen number of times in the past, Pakistan’s tendency of stunning everyone with their superlative performances was on full display at The Oval on Sunday (June 18) as they inflicted a heavy 180-run defeat on the Men in Blue.

After being invited to bat first, the Men in Green went off to a solid start with Fakhar Zaman and Azhar Ali adding 128 runs for the first wicket before the latter was run-out for 59.

In reply, India went off to a disastrous start with Mohammad Amir sending back the in-form trio of Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli cheaply to leave the batting side reeling at 33 for 3. Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav soon departed before Hardik Pandya‘s  whirlwind knock of 76 runs took India’s score to over 150. Pandya tried his best to wage a lone battle but once he was run-out, the tail-enders could not hold for long as India were bowled out for 158 in the 31st over.

This was India’s first defeat to Pakistan in an ICC event since the loss in the 2009 Champions Trophy and so there is absolutely no denying that the Indian team will be heartbroken after the loss. However the heavy loss did not stop the Indian players from displaying a beautiful sportsmanship. A video posted by the ICC on Twitter showed India skipper Virat Kohli and senior batsman sharing a light moment with the Pakistani players during the presentation ceremony.

Here is a clip of that light moment between India and Pakistan players:

In fact, captain Kohli looked quite animated during the whole interaction.
