Team India skipper Virat Kohli is likely to take a break from cricket during the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. The series will kick off from November 3 with Rohit Sharma likely to step up to don the leadership hat.

Meanwhile, the management over the last few years have perfectly managed the workload of the players. From pacers to batsmen, they have provided adequate rest to their cricketers to keep them fit ahead of the important series.

And with important engagements lined up, the management is likely to rest Virat Kohli for the Bangladesh series. Kohli has been playing continuous cricket since the start of this year and needs some break to come back fresh for the two-match Test series which will follow the T20Is.

The absence of Kohli will open doors for a young cricketer who will be keen to stake a claim in the Indian team. Delhi will host the opening game followed by Rajkot and Nagpur.

We at Cricket Addictor take a look at the three possible replacements of India skipper Virat Kohli for the upcoming series against Bangladesh:

MAYANK AGARWAL

Mayank Agarwal has been making the right noises with the bat across formats. Although he has flourished in red-ball cricket, Mayank is yet to get an opportunity in the limited-overs. He joined the World Cup squad as a replacement of Vijay Shankar but didn’t get any game.

With Virat Kohli likely to take a break from the Bangladesh series, Agarwal can be an ideal choice for the no 3 slot. The management is also keen to try out various combinations ahead of the T20 World Cup and this will be the best opportunity to test Mayank.

The Karnataka batsman has a good record playing in the IPL and can shoulder the responsibility needed to be successful in that position.

DINESH KARTHIK

The management has not considered Dinesh Karthik ever since India’s ouster from the ICC World Cup. But the veteran wicket-keeper batsman has been making the right noises with the bat in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Karthik has been in good form with the bat leading the team from the front as Tamil Nadu have looked unbeatable in the tournament. With Dinesh Karthik offering the experience needed to find success at the role, the management might consider him again.

However, Karthik recently said that he is aiming to don the finishing role for Team India and follow the footsteps of MS Dhoni.

SHUBMAN GILL

Ever since his brilliant show in the U19 World Cup, Shubman Gill has been in the reckoning for a national spot. He staked his claim with outstanding outings in the domestic cricket and the IPL and earned his maiden ODI cap during the New Zealand tour earlier this year.

However, Gill failed to impress scoring only 16 runs from two matches. But Gill, as recognised by many, is one for the future and also earned his debut call for the Test series against South Africa. Although he didn’t get a game, it would have been a learning curve.

The Punjab-born cricketer is one of the frontrunners to replace Virat Kohli in the line-up for the series against Bangladesh. Gill will be desperate to grab the opportunity if anything comes his way.
