International cricket is a tough grind. Such is the pressure of expectations laid upon the cricketers that even the best of them can lose their cool in the heat of the moment.
Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is an epitome of patience and cool-and-collected demeanor. But, even he has had such moments where his emotions have got the better of him.
Here’s a look at five such instances where MS Dhoni lost his cool on the cricket field –
5 India vs Sri Lanka, 2nd T20I, 2017
“You think I’m mad? I’ve played 300 ODIs,” a fuming MS Dhoni said to chinaman Kuldeep Yadav after the latter refused a fielding suggestion of the former Indian captain during the second T20I against Sri Lanka.
India, riding on the back of a whirlwind 43-ball 118 by captain Rohit Sharma and an equally belligerent 89 (off 49 balls) had racked up an imposing 5-260 in 20 overs.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, had started brilliantly, with Upul Tharanga [47 off 29 balla] and Kusal Perera [77 off 37 balls] were going hammer and tongs with Kuldeep Yadav at the receiving end of the onslaught.
Kuldeep later revealed that whenever he pitched the ball, it went for a six. And, after every six, he would look at Dhoni, who would ask him to pitch it further up. Dhoni then suggested for a field change which the chinaman denied. Kuldeep’s denial infuriated Dhoni and the former skipper went ahead with the changes regardless.
The change in the field worked wonders as Kuldeep went on to dismiss Perera before proceeding to take two more scalps as the visitors stumbled from 2-145 to 172 all-out.
