Top 5 Longest Sixes In IPL 2020
Updated - 09 Oct 2020, 01:27 AM
Sixes in T20 leagues and mainly Indian Premier League (IPL) have become a norm ever since the inception. Brendon McCullum, who struck 158 in the first-ever match of IPL, hammered 13 sixes in his unbeaten knock. Ever since that historical inning, not only batsmen but also bowlers have deployed inventive shots to clear the fence with ease.
A total of 272 sixes have been struck in IPL 2020 so far. Defending champions Mumbai Indians leads the list with 53 at present while Sanju Samson holds the individual record with 16. However, the length of the maximums equally matter. While the fence becomes comfortable to clear in Sharjah, it gets slightly challenging in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Hence, it is interesting to know who has amassed the longest six so far.
We take a look at top five longest sixes so far in IPL 2020:
Nicholas Pooran – 100 meters:
Nicholas Pooran has smashed seven sixes so far in a fighting knock against the SunRisers Hyderabad. Nicholas Pooran came in at the loss of Prabhsimran Singh and took the attack to the SunRisers Hyderabad. He also smashed a 17-ball fifty, the fastest of the 2020 edition.
The West Indian keeper-batsman clattered Abdul Samad for four sixes in an over. It was the first of those that travelled 100 meters. The southpaw clubbed it way over the long-off region and it travelled miles. Nicholas Pooran has currently kept Kings XI Punjab marginally in the game.
Shane Watson – 101 meters:
Shane Watson returned to form the other night against Kings XI Punjab in Dubai as he smashed an unbeaten half-century to guide Chennai Super Kings to a ten-wicket victory. In his innings of 83, Shane Watson hammered three maximums, one of which travelled a massive 101 meters.
The right-handed batsman clubbed the full and flat delivery outside off from leggie Ravi Bishnoi to far over mid-wicket. It was a welcome return to form from the 39-year old as CSK also looked like getting their campaign back on track. Watson and Faf Du Plessis chased down 179 with more than two overs to spare.
Nicholas Pooran – 105 meters:
Nicholas Pooran from Kings XI Punjab has been in an excellent form as well; however, has not received consistent opportunities to bat. Nicholas Pooran has maintained a strike rate in excess of 150 this season. The southpaw also displayed a masterclass fielding effort against Rajasthan Royals.
Meanwhile, the West Indian keeper-batsman collected 28 runs off one over delivered by Abdul Samad. Abdul Samad had already given ten runs off two balls and Pooran danced down the track to pummel another one; however, long-on this time. It travelled a staggering 105 meters in the long boundaries off Dubai.
Jofra Archer – 105 meters:
The 25-year old did so against Chennai Super Kings’ seamer Lungi Ngidi in the final over. Of his four sixes in the last over itself, Archer clubbed one straight back over the head that travelled a staggering 105 meters. He went on to hammer the South African seamer for 30 runs, lifting the Royals to 216 that eventually proved to be a winning one.
Nicholas Pooran – 106 meters:
Abdul Samad delivered another good length delivery outside off-stump. The southpaw was quick to latch on to it and send it miles over long-on. It travelled 106 meters, going over Jofra Archer’s 105. However, there are no batsmen to accompany him as he waged a lone fight to take the KXIP over the line before falling for 77.
