Aakash Chopra, the former Indian opener-turned commentator, has lambasted the fans who have questioned the quality of Women’s T20 Challenge after Velocity were bowled out for a mere 47 by a Sophie Ecclestone-led Trailblazers attack.
Chopra went on to question the fans as to whether they would have said the same when Royal Challengers Bangalore were knocked over for 49 in IPL 2017 or when Kolkata Knight Riders huffed and puffed their way to 8-84 in one of the earlier matches of the ongoing edition.
”Velocity won a match at the start and then lost a match. When they won, it was a good win against Supernovas but when they lost they were all out for 47.” Aakash Chopra said on his official Youtube channel.
”There was a big question that a lot of people have asked and I want to address that. A lot of people have said that what sort of team this is, they got out for 47, that is why no one watches women’s cricket and that it is a bad advertisement with the match being telecast on TV.” he said.
”Put your hand on your heart and tell if you had asked the same question when Royal Challengers Bangalore had got out for 49, did you ask this question from KKR when they scored 84 for 8 in 20 overs.” Chopra asked.
Aakash Chopra further reckoned that any team can get stuck on a given day besides reminding everyone that the women cricketers are coming off a long layoff and due to the quarantine process, they haven’t had much time to practice.
”The opportunity is their right. You have not done any favours to them. Every team gets stuck some time or the other. They had a bigger quarantine and a shorter practice period.” he added.
Meanwhile, the 3rd and final round-robin game of the Women’s T20 Challenge will be played between Trailblazers and Supernovas in Sharjah on Friday. While the Trailblazers are almost through to the finals, the Supernovas will have to ensure that they win on Friday if they have to harbor any chance of making it to the summit clash.
