India cricketer turned commentator Aakash Chopra brought up another interesting segment of analysis on his YouTube channel. In this segment, Aakash Chopra picked up his super over bowler among Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Starc. He also explained the reason behind his choice.
All three fast bowlers have made their nation proud through their contribution for the game. Aakash Chopra said that Malinga, the lion, might have grown old but he knows how to bowl. He did not go for the Sri Lankan fast bowler. Among Bumrah and Starc, Chopra said that if you are an Indian, you will go with the national team fast bowler.
“Lasith Malinga, the lion might have grown old but has not forgotten how to catch its prey. And if you see the earlier days, choosing anyone above Lasith Malinga would be an injustice. Although he won MI the 2019 IPL final with his slower one, he is not my choice right now ahead of Rashid, Bumrah and Starc. So, if I have such options I will not go to Malinga.”
“Mitchell Starc with his height and reverse swinging yorkers, he doesn’t have to bowl slower ones or bouncers. He can put 6 yorkers right on the spot. He can bowl over the wicket or round the wicket, wide yorkers or on the body with pace and an odd ball that climbs on you from three-quarters length.
“If he is in form, I will go with him. Choosing between him and Bumrah is a very tough call. If you are Australian you will go with him, if you are Indian you will go with Bumrah,” Chopra said.
Bumrah has grown in stature as one of the effective pace bowlers ever since his debut. He will be next seen in action during the IPL 2020. His bowling action has been a bit of concern with legends like Shoaib Akhtar and Michael Holding voicing their opinions about it.
Bumrah has short run-up, slightly slinging action and hits the deck hard which might be effective as far as wicket-taking and economic spells are concerned but might effect in the long runs, Michael Holding had earlier said keeping in mind the amount of effort he has to put in his bowling
