Aakash Chopra, former Indian opener-turned commentator, feels that the lack of batting depth, out of form batsmen and the absence of Ambati Rayudu is preventing CSK skipper MS Dhoni from playing an extra-bowling option.
Chopra made these observations after Chennai Super Kings suffered another heartwrenching defeat in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League, which not only exposed the fallacies in their batting-unit but also the lack of depth in the bowling department.
“MS Dhoni is playing with 5 bowlers for the first time in my living memory, which he doesn’t like. He is concerned about his batting, he is even more worried because of Ambati Rayudu’s absence. He is not a 100% confident about his own form. With Ruturaj in the batting lineup and Murali Vijay also not scoring runs, he is not certain if he can play 6 bowlers.” Aakash Chopra said on his Youtube show.
Aakash Chopra on Ravindra Jadeja’s form for CSK in IPL 2020
Jadeja has struggled in all the three games and has taken just 2 wickets in the 2020 IPL. Apart from the lack of wickets, Jadeja has struggled to keep the flow of runs in check as opposition batsmen have targeted his overs, paving way for him to concede 40-plus runs in all three outings- 2-42 vs MI, 0-40 vs RR, and 0-44 vs DC.

Chopra reckoned that with the kind of team combination that CSK has right now, Dhoni has nowhere to go even though Jadeja is no way near his peak form.
“And if you play 5 bowlers, then if you see Jaddu’s situation in this whole season, he has conceded more than 40 runs in all the three matches. If he is going to leak so many runs and you have got nowhere else to go, that is very unlike Dhoni but it is happening.” Aakash Chopra said.
CSK has six days to address their slide before they take on SunRisers Hyderabad on October 02.
