It has been five days since the Indian duo of MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina announced their international retirement yet they don’t veer away from being amongst the talking points. MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina hung up their boots from international cricket on the same day and did so after a plethora of achievements. Following that, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra reckons BCCI should allow them to partake in the foreign T20 leagues.

While cricket board almost worldwide have no objection to their players participating in the IPL or other T20 leagues, BCCI has not allowed their athletes the privilege. The significant reason might be due to their international commitments, which goes almost throughout the year and injury concerns. Yuvraj Singh, who retired in June 2019, did play in Global T20 Canada and Abu Dhabi T10 league.

Aakash Chopra sees no harm in allowing MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina to play as long as they do not present their cases for national selection. The 42-year old believes that risks of injury are the primary reason the Indian board does not allow and already pay enough money to stay put.

I think they should be allowed because if they have retired and if they are not presenting themselves for selection for the Indian team then there should be no harm in letting them go. There are two sides of this story, one is workload management. BCCI does not let their contracted players go to play in overseas leagues because they do not want to risk an injury scare and thus they are paying them enough money to stay put,” Chopra told in his Youtube channel.

Aakash pointed out another reason that if the BCCI lets go of its top-notch players, the IPL might have no novelty. Now that Dhoni and Raina have retired, they should have the permission to feature in overseas T20 leagues. He also believes that Dhoni might not have the desire to play; however, at 33, Raina can still contribute plenty to any franchise he plays for.

Second side is that the BCCI does not want to let go of its marquee players. Because if Indian marquee players will begin playing in other leagues then there will be no novelty left of the IPL. So I think Dhoni and Raina should be allowed to play. Just imagine how much fun it would be to see them playing. I don’t see Dhoni playing in foreign leagues but Suresh Raina is just 33 and he will want to play more cricket,” he added.
