The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) received a significant boost ahead of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Their star batsman Ab de Villiers and his fellow countrymen Chris Morris, and Dale Steyn landed in Dubai ahead of the extravaganza.

There remained speculation over their availability for the initial phase of the tournament. However, not only did Ab de Villiers appeared in Dubai but said he felt glad to join the squad.

The South African government-imposed restrictions on international flights till September end due to the rising cases of COVID-19. The Bangalore-based franchise has three Proteas’ players, including Ab de Villiers, Chris Morris, and Dale Steyn.

Hence, they would have suffered without their availability. The franchise recruited all-rounder Morris for INR 10 crores while Ab de Villiers has been one of their consistent performers over the years.

Two black Mercedes stopped in front of a Dubai hotel and out came Ab de Villiers, Dale Steyn, and Chris Morris from it to join the rest of the players, who already landed in the UAE. The former Proteas’ skipper said that he is very excited to be in the UAE in the company of the other RCB athletes.

I am very excited, very happy to be here. The travelling was a bit different to normal but we made it here, I am with my South African friends, we are happy to be back in the RCB family,” AB de Villiers said upon entering the hotel.

I am looking forward to getting to know everyone, all the new players: Ab de Villiers

The 36-year old added that he is looking forward to settling in first and get a feel for what’s in store moving forward this year. De Villiers conceded that he wants to get to know all the new players and excited to work alongside them. RCB has been one of the most inconsistent sides of the lot, having not won the title even once. However, with fresh players like Aaron Finch, Isuru Udana, Josh Phillipe, and Chris Morris, the franchise will hope to turn their fortunes around.

I am looking forward to settle, pack the bags out, get a feel for what we are in for this year. I am looking forward to get to know everyone, all the new players, there is a whole new feel in the side. So very excited,” he added.
