Adam Gilchrist had brilliant wicket-keeping skill which captivated a lot of fans and aspiring talents. India women’s team wicket-keeper Taniya Bhatia is one of them. Bhatia, a regular in the national team, looked up to Adam Gilchrist as an inspiration. She followed him since her childhood days.
Before MS Dhoni broke into the international circuit, the Australian great was regarded highly for his wicket-keeping skills. Gilchrist held the record for most dismissals by a wicket-keeper in ODIs until Kumar Sangakkara surpassed him.
“Adam Gilchrist, I have always followed him since my childhood. I also admire Sarah Taylor; I have met her in person and also Mithali Di, I have looked up to her, I have played with her and learned so much and Harman Di as well. We used to play for Punjab. She has always supported me. I’ve always looked up to these players,” Taniya Bhatia told Times Now.
“I enjoyed playing with them, have learned from them, about how do they keep themselves calm under pressure situations. And how do they improve on minor things. So yes, I keep learning,” she added.
Bhatia last featured for India in the women’s T20 World Cup. She was not in-form during the marquee tournament as she had the high score of 23 runs.
The right-handed batter has an average of 20 in the ODIs and 10 in the shortest format of the game.
