Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has been hit by Covid-19 and have subsequently planned to deduct at least 25 per cent of salaries of the coaching staff, which also means head coach Lance Klusener and batting coach HD Ackermann will be among those impacted along side assistant coach Nawroz Mangal.
ACB is still to strengthen its mantle amid other cricket boards across the world and the unceremonious Covid-19 has served as a major drawback. With no cricket, at least for the next two month, the board is sure to face major loss and as a result the precautionary steps have been taken.
Afghanistan Cricket Board chief: It is part of our saving strategy
ACB chief executive Lutfullah Stanikzai has said that the deduction in the payment for the coaching staffs is a part of saving strategy for the future. He also asserted the 25 per cent deduction is for May and it can increase to 50 per cent by June if cricket season does not resume.
“This is part of our cost saving strategy as we have been also impacted by the Covid-19 crisis,” ACB chief executive Lutfullah Stanikzai told ESPNcricinfo.
“We have decided to cut 25% (of the salary for the coaches) for May, 50% for June if we are not able to resume international cricket. We will try and keep them for as long as our financial situation allows,” he added.
The centrally contracted cricketers under ACB have received their payments for the first quarter but their further payment can be reviewed if their series against Zimbabwe does not gets underway as per scheduled. According to media reports, 32 senior men and 55 domestic cricketers have got contracts from the board.
