After receiving no help from cricket stars, Ashraf Chaudhary, a bat repairer, is all set to receive some much-needed financial support from Bollywood actor Sonu Sood.

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has taken a big toll on the country’s economy. The lockdown saw thousands of persons lose their jobs as the country came to a standstill to bring the spread of the coronavirus under control. Cricket has not been spared either.

There has been no competitive cricket in India since March and people who are dependent on the game for their livelihoods have been adversely affected. What’s worse for them is that there is still no sign regarding when will things get back to normal.

And Ashraf Chaudhary is also one of them. He owns an ancestral shop near Mumbai’s Metro cinema but is out of work for months because of the pandemic. He is a well-known figure in Mumbai’s local cricketing circuit and has repaired bats of some big names from the game like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli among others.

But he is out of work since March and his miseries have been further compounded by health problems. Chaudhary is hospitalised due to kidney problems and with no source of income, he is struggling to pay his hospital bills.

“His situation is not good. There was some kidney stone-related problem, which has resurfaced again and there are other complications too. The lockdown means his business took a major hit as cricket has completely come to standstill in the city. He doesn’t have funds; whatever he has, it’s over,” Prashant Jethmalani, who is helping Ashraf raise funds for the treatment, told The Indian Express.

Sonu Sood to help Chaudhary:

With Chaudhary in dire need of help, Sonu Sood, who has helping people across the country during the pandemic, has vowed to help him. The actor came to know about Chaudhary on Twitter when an user shared the bat repairer’s plight on the social media platform.

He urged Sonu Sood to help Chaudhary and the Bollywood star did not take long to respond. Re-tweeting the tweet, he wrote: “Find the address of this brother.”
