After Nearly 40 Years, Chandigarh Finally Gets BCCI Affiliation

Chandigarh has finally received the affiliation from Board of Control for Cricket in India after nearly 40 years. The affiliation is finally approved by the India board as revealed by the Union Territory Cricket Association (UTCA) president Sanjay Tandon.

The Union Territory Cricket Association was registered in 1982. Since then there were several attempts made by the association to get the affiliation but none of them was successful. In fact, Sanjay Tandon revealed that there were some officials in the Indian board who acted as a hindrance in getting Chandigarh its affiliation from the board.

This is a historic day for Chandigarh.

“Today, in the meeting of BCCI, the affiliation of Chandigarh has been approved. I got the message from BCCI that Chandigarh has been formally inducted as a cricket playing state with the Board,” Union Territory Cricket Association (UTCA) president Sanjay Tandon told reporters in the evening.

“In fact, I took over as president of UTCA in June 2016. I must say efforts of everyone paid dividends towards realising this dream,” said Tandon, who is also president of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s SChandigarh unit.

Subsequently, Sanjay Tandon stated that a dream of a budding cricketer is now fulfilled as he can represent the city in the domestic circuit. It is indeed a historic day for Chandigarh cricket.

Dream of Chandigarh child is now fulfilled.

“Today, the dream of a child who wanted to play from Chandigarh has been fulfilled. It’s a historic day for the game of cricket in Chandigarh,” he said.

 

Chandigarh will have its own team and the challenge would be to get the players to play for the Union Territory. Sanjay Tandon also revealed the BCCI member Saba Karim, who is the head of the Cricket Operations and Anshuman Gaekwad, who is the member of the CAC had met UTCA member with regard to the affiliation.

To get the recognition, Chandigarh cricket association had amalgamated with UTCA, thus to have Union Territory recognised as a special entity.
