India skipper Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkmar Sharma has backed his ward, saying the under-fire cricketer has seldom crossed the line of aggression on the field. Sharma spoke to the reporters during the DY Patil T20 Cup.
“When he (Kohli) is doing well with the same aggression for the country, then everyone appreciates. I have always believed that yes, aggression is his strength, but there is a thin line between aggression and ‘battamizi’ (misbehaviour). He never crosses that line, and he should not. Aggression pumps him up to do well,” Sharma told a group of reporters here.
Kohli is well known for his antics on the field of cricket. On day two of the second Test match in Christchurch, Kohli was at his animated best and broke into a wild celebration at the fall of Kane Williamson’s wicket, which was picked by Jasprit Bumrah.

The captain of the visiting side even went on to mock the crowd. Kohli had a dismal record in the recently concluded tour. He has hit just one fifty throughout the tour and averaged less than 10 in the Test matches. He could make a total of 38 runs in four innings and failed to bail his side out of trouble.

“Every player goes through a lean patch. There is something called the law of averages in cricket. Maybe, that has caught up. There is nothing to worry about. He is too good a player and he knows where it is going wrong. We have already discussed that. He will be back,” the 54-year-old coach said.
The batters failed to compliment the heart shown by the bowling unit. Injury to pacer Ishant Sharma didn’t help matters either. India were beaten by 10 and 7-wickets respectively. They will now host South Africa in an ODI series at home.
