India’s vice-captain in Tests, Ajinkya Rahane affirms that the team wouldn’t want to tinker with captain Virat Kohli’s style of play.
According to the middle order batsman, aggression brings the best out of Virat Kohli, irrespective of whether with the bat in hand or while taking the field.
In recent times, VK’s over the top celebrations and in-your-face attitude has been questioned by several cricketing brains. One of them is former Australian captain Steve Waugh.
“Aggression gets the best out of Virat Kohli. We don’t want to change anything about his aggression, about his approach when he is batting or when he is fielding,” opined Ajinkya Rahane, in India Today Conclave 2018, held in Mumbai.
Post the gruelling South African tour, the two time World cup winning Australian reckoned that VK needs to tone down on his aggressive touch when it comes to leading a side.
“I have seen him in South Africa and I feel that he was little over the top. But that’s a learning thing for a captain,” quoted Steve Waugh during Laureus World Sports Awards in Monaco.
On the contrary, former Indian captain Kapil Dev preached that everyone has the right to state their opinions. For Kapil Dev, whatever brings success to the team should work best.
Virat will mellow down in the future: Kapil Dev
“I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Steve has his opinion. I’m not going to respond to that. I feel as long as success is coming to the team, that’s good enough. Virat is one of the few who have come out and changed the thought process,” explained Kapil Dev.
“I think Virat (Kohli) will mellow down as time passes. If not, that’s his decision. He’s always been like this ever since I saw him in his U-19 days,” said the World Cup-winning captain from the sidelines of the same event, according to First Post.
