Former Australian captain and the 1987 World Cup-winning skipper Allan Border left the likes of Harsha Bhogle, Sanjay Manjrekar, and Glenn McGrath in splits thanks to a cheeky little sledge that he hurled at the latter.

It all happened during Sony Sports pre-match show when Glenn McGrath asked Border about his opinion on all-rounder Cameron Green, who made his Test debut for Australia in the pink ball Test at the Adelaide Oval.

Green has been compared to former Aussie captain Ricky Ponting by Australian legend Greg Chappell. Allan Border hailed Green as an exciting talent before he took a cheeky dig at McGrath when he said that the young all-rounder is 10 km/h quicker than the former.

“He’s an exciting young talent. What I like about him is that he as backed his potential with performance. He’s been scoring lots of runs in Sheffield Shield,” Allan Border said on Sony Sports Network.

“Lot of people have said that he’s the best they’ve seen since Ricky Ponting. You went to the academy with Ponting, so you know what a quality youngster he was and turned out to be one of the greats of the game. So if Green is anywhere near that then we have found a really good cricketer then you throw in the fact he’s around 6 foot 6 and bowls a heavy ball. He’s probably around 10 ks quicker than you pidgy! (McGrath’s nickname), bowls around 140. So he’s a real deal, don’t worry about that,” added Border.

”That is a proper sledge,” said Harsha Bhogle as the panelists Sanjay Manjrekar and Glenn McGrath himself broke into laughter.

Meanwhile, Australia has got off to a great start in the first Test against India courtesy of some relentless bowling by their fast bowlers. Prithvi Shaw’s woes continued as he was knocked over by Mitchell Starc on the second delivery of the match. Shaw’s footwork and shot selection once again proved to be his downfall as he inside-edged a good length delivery on his stumps.

Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara did the repair job for the next 18 overs before Pat Cummins once again proved to be India’s nemesis as he knocked over the Indian opener with a brilliant delivery; one that jagged back off the seam to dislodge his stumps.

Since then, Virat Kohli and Pujara have dug in and at the time of writing, India had moved on to 2/71 after 37 overs.
