Uttar Pradesh pacer Ankit Rajpoot will turn out for Steve Smith-led Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming IPL season in the UAE after plying his trade for Kings XI Punjab the last edition. The Mohali-based outfit traded Ankit Rajpoot ahead of the 2020 IPL. Meanwhile, the right-arm pacer revealed his excitement at the prospect of sharing the new ball with England pacer Jofra Archer. Archer has remained a vital part of Rajasthan Royals’ squad since 2018.

So far, Ankit Rajpoot has played for three franchises in Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, and Kings XI Punjab. The 26-year old suffered a lacklustre last season, playing four matches and bagging only three wickets at 50.67. Rajpoot’s best season was of 2018 in which his eight games yielded 11 wickets at 20.27 apiece. Nevertheless, his overall T20 record is an encouraging one, taking 97 scalps in 73 fixtures at 18.97 alongside three fifers.

Ankit Rajpoot cannot wait to share the new ball with Jofra Archer, who keeps the batsmen guessing with his variations and speed. Rajpoot went on to say that the Barbadian looks very relaxed during his run-up and approach and hopes to learn plenty from him. Archer played a critical role in England’s World Cup victory last year and has snared 26 wickets in 21 IPL fixtures through his fiery pace bowling.

“I am so excited to share the new ball with Jofra Archer. A batsman cannot judge him and figure out what delivery he is going to bowl. He has the ability to bowl six different variations in an over and will change speed as well. He bowls without any pressure. If you see his run-up and approach, he is very calm and relaxed. I am really looking forward to learning a lot from him,” the 26-year old told Times of India.

Ankit further stated that the Rajasthan Royals is a land that presents ample opportunities for the youngsters to flourish. He feels sure of getting plenty of chances to prove his worth and is raring to go.

Rajasthan is a team who gives a lot of opportunities and chances to youngsters. I am really happy to be with the Royals. I am sure I will get a lot of opportunities and learn a lot from this team. It’s a new start for me and I am prepared for it,” Rajpoot added.
