The England team began their third and final warm-up match before the first Ashes test in Townsville on Wednesday. The England team had a blast from the past as the scoreboard at the ground had Matt Prior’s name at the number 6 position for the England team. Matt Prior was an integral part of the England team in 2010-2011 which toured Australia and won the series 2-1 to retain the Urn.

Prior played 79 Tests for England and scored 3920 runs at an average of 40.83. Prior won two Ashes, one at home in 2009 and the other in Australia in 2010-11. Prior reacted to the incidence on twitter and wrote,

“I knew I was meant to be doing something today! What I’d give to be out there with those boys now.”

Talking about England’s wicket-keeper batsmen and today’s warm-up game, the England team survived an injury scare to one of their wicket-keeper batsmen Jonny Bairstow as he left the field due to an injury to his middle finger of his left hand. Bairstow left the field as he was struck by a ball by the inform fast bowler Chris Woakes.

Thankfully for the England team, Bairstow had not suffered a broken finger, and the reports suggested that it was just a bruised finger. England who is already without the services of Ben Stokes, were delighted to have Bairstow back on the field as his loss would have been a huge blow to their Ashes preparations.

Ben Foakes took the responsibility of keeping the stumps in Bairstow’s absence and made his first appearance for the England team. England had the upper hand after day one as they restricted CA XI at 249/9 at stumps. Chris Woakes impressed once again as he picked up six wickets. Woakes had earlier picked up four wickets in the second warm-up match.
